Radio Access

This academic quarter we were funded by the UC San Diego Parents Fund to create the Radio Access project. We currently have 4 Yaesu FT-60R Dual-Band Handheld radios available for students to borrow.

No license? We can license you on campus! Ask in our discord for current and upcoming test dates.

Interested? Sign up in the form here: https://forms.gle/FogaaxMk4x1i3k978

Other resources the club has available to our members:

  • Circuit lab project space
  • Multiple HF radios with portable antennas
  • RS-BA1 Base Station (active)
  • Comet Antennas attached to an Icom 7300

How do I get licensed?

The fastest way to get licensed is to study the question pool, which is available for free on https://hamstudy.org/.

You do not have to make a hamstudy account but it’s recommended and useful if you want to keep track of your progress.

Newly licensed and don’t know what to do?

  • Get a free radio from QRZ: https://www.gigaparts.com/qrzjumpstart
  • Partake in some local San Diego nets: https://sites.google.com/view/ham-radio-exams/sd-nets?authuser=0
    • You don’t have to necessarily talk on these nets. Sometimes listening to other people through the nets gives you a feel for how to operate.
